Is Google Going Too Far?
Google announced that they will be creating a service which essentially goes after markets dominated by social bookmarking sites like Squidoo and information sites like Wikipedia.
Here is an article about this fact:

Social Bookmarking - What is it?
Although you’ve heard the term so many times, you may not be entirely clear on what it is and it’s power. In this blog entry I will give you a quick run down of what the hype is about and hopefully clear things up for you so that you can take advantage of this powerful tool to create traffic for your site.
The idea of social bookmarking is very simple. You know the term bookmarking means saving your favorite website addresses in your “Favorites” or “Bookmarking”. Someone came up with the idea that rather that just storing them on your PC or browser that putting them on the web somewhere would be a good idea. After all, you’d be able to use to access them from any PC in the world and “share them with others”.
The “share them with others” feature is what makes the bookmarking “social”.
Ok. So, what’s the big deal? Why all the hype?
Well, it turns out that Google loves new content. It just eats it up and indexes like there’s no tomorrow. Internet Marketers noticed that there bookmarks were getting picked up by Google really fast and realized that it is a great tool to get organic traffic. Free traffic!
I’ll take it!
So, that’s the idea. By using as many of these Web 2.o sites, you can easily pick up some traffic and links to your site.
More traffic. More affiliate sales.
In my next article, I’ll get a little deeper into it and explain how you can corner a specific market on Google using social bookmarking.
So, if you haven’t already, subscribe to my Newsletter using the Newsletter link on the top or side menu and you’ll receive an email alert when the article is posted.
In the meantime, take a look at this great video that shows you how social bookmarking works.
Have a great day!

New to Affliate Marketing: Cloaking Links
Cloaking, or hiding the real link, is a technique so that your affiliate links
look clean and void of url parameters which might intentionally or not
be removed resulting in lost commissions for you.
For instance, and affiliate link may look something like this:
http://www.theproduct.com?aff_id=221100
The number on the end of the string represents your affiliate id. The vendor then knows that you referred the visitor to their website. If the person buys then, you get the commission.
Unfortunately, some unscrupulous web surfers like to remove the affiliate id at the end of the url and still purchase the product, but rob you of a commission.
To improve the chances of that happening and also to make your link look nice, we use cloaking. So, in our example, the link would look something like this:
http://www.mywebsite.com/recommendsXX/
That would take the person to the same place but look how cleaner it looks and
it also avoids displaying your affiliate id. Now, I’m not saying that if the person
really wants to he can’t do it anyways. But, if it doesn’t look like an affiliate link,
there’s less chances that they will do it.
To set this up is pretty easy too. It takes about 5 minutes.
Step 1. Log into your website and create a folder called “recommendsXX” without the quotes. Replace the XX with a unique identifier that refers to the name of the product
you are selling like “recommendsaweber”
Step 2. In that folder, create a file called htaccess.txt
Step 3. In the file add these lines:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^/*.* http://producturl.com/info.php?&aff_id=xxxx
IndexIgnore *
Replace the “http:….” with your actual affiliate link.
Step 4. Rename the file to “.htaccess” without the quotes. Yes, that’s a dot before the htaccess.
Your done! To test your link navigate to your URL with /recommendsXX/ and it will redirect to the affiliate product site.
Pretty neat, eh? (I’m Canadian)
Personally, I have so many links and I like to use a tool that does it all for me. It manages all my links and tracks clicks and referrers. It’s quite sophisticated.

How Is Your Online Credibility?
Your online credibility is what distinguishes you and your sites from sites that don’t
have the interest of their readers online. It is also the key to establishing relationships
with other sites with authority helping your credibility improve. Like it or not, it will
translate to your bottom line.
Take a look at this great video of research done on this topic.
